Splint therapy is one of the many orthodontic services we are happy to offer at Stormberg Orthodontics. Restoring the perfect smile in our San Diego area patients is our number one priority and splint therapy is often used to solve a number of orthodontic problems we encounter. Dr. Stormberg is experienced and skilled in evaluating each individual patient and developing a treatment process that will work for you. If you’re a new splint therapy patient, here are a few directions that will help your treatment progress smoothly and effectively.
When To Wear Your Lower Splint
Splint therapy requires that you wear your lower splint full time, excluding meals and sports. When you’re not wearing your lower splint, be sure to keep it clean and safe by placing it in a retainer case.
Importance Of Consistent Splint Therapy
Your splint will work when you wear it. Splint therapy for adult treatment for TMD Symptoms requires that your split be worn 24 hours a day, except when eating and participating in active sports. Just place your lower splint in a retainer case during that time. It should be worn until symptoms improve. You can expect a correction in 6 to 12 weeks.
Prevent Grinding With Splint Therapy
You should wear your lower splint during sleep time to avoid teeth grinding and clenching.
Hot To Keep Your Lower Splint Clean
Your appliance needs to be cleaned numerous times during the day with water and toothpaste. Use a toothbrush and/or retainer cleaner. Extra costs will be incurred if not worn, broken or lost.
Your Splint Appliance Can Melt!
Do not leave your splint appliance in a hot car or place it in hot water. If your lower splint becomes damaged for any reason and you need any adjustments, please call your San Diego orthodontist for an appointment as soon as possible and bring your splint to your appointment.
